Aging and retirement are life stages everyone will eventually encounter. As time moves forward, we are often labeled, as if reaching a certain age determines how we should live. But who says life has only one kind of narrative?
We take “tearing off labels” as a starting point for reflection. Tearing is not an act of resistance, but an act of initiative and a decision to redefine ourselves and rewrite our own chapters.
Open Chapter takes retirement and aging as its point of departure, positioning them as a public cultural experiment in reimagining ways of living. The first pilot is set to take place in Guangzhou, China, grounding the concept within a specific local context. Through community markets, interactive games, and immersive experiences, we invite participants of all ages to explore the many possibilities of life’s next chapter.
Its visual language embraces free-form compositions and non-linear structures, disrupting singular storytelling and presenting life as an unfolding chapter in progress.
