Originating in the Western Zhou Dynasty and flourishing through the Tang and Song periods, Dou Gong has served structural, seismic, ornamental, and symbolic functions for over 3,000 years. Built entirely from timber without nails or glue, it relies on precise mortise-and-tenon joinery to achieve stability and connection.
The design draws from architectural forms across dynasties—including pagodas, halls, pavilions, temples, and altars—to extract structural principles and construct a typographic system.
