About The Entry

“Bid. Collect. Curate. Speculate.”
This is Kitschists, a board game for 2-4 Players. Players act as art traders, competing in auctions to collect artworks and manage galleries for Coins and Prestige.
As an alternative rendering of "reality", art in the contemporary context seems increasingly elusive. It's a fascinating phenomenon and a constant reminder that we must remain rational even as we step into this seemingly emotional domain.
Drawing from the operational logic of titles like Wingspan and Zoo Tycoon, I tried to design a more accessible synergy system based on card attributes and positional relationships, paired with an auction mechanic that requires frequent hand-swapping. The presentation of the auction, however, must not feel crude or disorderly, nor demand excessive verbal negotiation from players.
Various unexpected events should also have an impact - just like in reality: authenticity scandals, internet myths, hype, accidents...Wouldan artist's death revive interest in their once-neglected works? If introduced, how to make these feel more intriguing than frustrating?
Coupled with the cards' absurd, satirical tone, players intuitively grasp value uncertainly and information gaps, which effectively curbs impulsive in-game behavior.
