For World Cancer Day 2025, Hey Honey partnered with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to solve a fundamental challenge: how to create a single, universal idea that could resonate globally and mobilise user-generated content (UGC). Our solution was the "Upside Down" Challenge, a social-first creative concept rooted in the emotional truth that a cancer diagnosis turns a person's world upside down. We translated this insight into a simple, accessible social media campaign, inviting anyone affected by cancer to share a flipped photo or video of themselves, along with their unique story.
The campaign’s beauty lay in its visual simplicity and profound emotional resonance. By providing an inclusive, language-agnostic idea, we inspired over 1,000 individuals to actively participate by creating their own content, which contributed to World Cancer Day’s total of 6 million engagements and results in their most successful UGC campaign to support World Cancer Day - to date. This campaign demonstrates how a human-centric idea can effectively activate a vast network of member organisations and the public, to foster a powerful sense of unity and shared purpose through audience-led content.
