The project is a series of cultural ornaments rooted in the aesthetic richness of Eastern mythology, creatively integrating the Eastern legend of The Nine Sons of Loong with the Zhuazhou Ceremony (a traditional Chinese custom on a child's first birthday anniversary where an assortment of articles are placed in front of infants to allow them to choose for prediction of their future interests and career). Centered around the philosophy of all things having their unique strengths and purposes, the project utilizes modern design language to transform traits of the legendary nine sons of Loong into tangible, Q-style collectible figurines— Qiú niú with a lute represents devotion to music, Yá zì with a sword symbolizes courage, and Chī wěn with a gourd conveys blessings of safety—each piece epitomizes a contemporary reinterpretation of mythological narrative and visual symbolism. The project not only preserves the traditional function of the Zhuazhou ritual in predicting a child's interests but also extends its significance beyond the ceremony, crafting a series of cultural artifacts that seamlessly blend into daily living. Through a combination of Zhuazhou ornaments and derivatives, the project forms a complete cultural chain encompassing ritual, decoration, and knowledge dissemination.
The project adopts soft, rounded Q-style forms suitable for parent-child interaction, with color palettes drawn from natural motifs found in The Nine Sons of Loong. It presents a playful and lively style while maintaining cultural identity, achieving a balance between aesthetic appeal and practical function. The project aims to convey the Eastern wisdom of "harmony in diversity" and "all things having their unique strengths and purposes" through innovative forms. With an expandable cultural IP system, it transforms tradition from a static heritage into a living story—one that sustains ongoing relevance, inspires cross-cultural resonance, and continues to evolve through creative engagement.
