Every year, when the Oscar nominees are announced, moviegoers gear up for a marathon of film-watching. But let’s be honest: even most Academy voters don’t make it through all the Best Picture contenders. So why should our audience?
AdoroCinema, Brazil’s leading film platform, decided to flip the script. We brought the Oscars into the language of social media: short, punchy, and irresistibly fun. With no media investment and a very limited production budget, we turned our office into a DIY movie studio and cast a forgotten box of collectible toys as the stars of the show.
The concept was simple: summarize all ten Best Picture nominees in bite-sized, toy-acted sketches that anyone could enjoy, whether they’d seen the films or not.
A three-and-a-half-hour biopic about architecture? We boiled it down to under three minutes. A French musical about a Mexican drug lord undergoing gender reassignment? Easy. The election of a new pope? Leave it to the toys.
Each recap mixed humor, sharp commentary, and just the right dose of absurdity to spark curiosity and help people feel part of the Oscar conversation.
The audience loved it. Anticipation built with every new post, turning our toy box into a content machine. And in the end, with nothing but a handful of plastic figurines, we did what even the Academy struggles to do: get people genuinely interested in watching the nominated films.
