Jason Zhang’s record-breaking 12-show run at the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, marked a new chapter in live concert audio in China, thanks to the country's first-ever cable-suspended d&b audiotechnik sound system.
The groundbreaking setup, designed and executed by Nanjing OST Audiovisual Technology and renowned engineer Jin Shaogang, featured an enormous deployment of 512 d&b SL-Series loudspeakers, suspended from a 200-meter steel cable network across the stadium’s roof and 126-meter Stage. This pioneering design ensured consistent, high-quality sound for all 70,000 attendees per night, regardless of their location in the venue.
Utilizing d&b’s SL-Series with its full-range directivity control, the system delivered pristine highs and precise low-end coverage. The cardioid SL-SUB subwoofers reduced stage noise by 50%, while ArrayProcessing ensured an SPL variance of just 3 dB from front row to back row—setting a new acoustic benchmark for large venues in China.
The rigging configuration transformed the stadium’s architecture into a functional audio platform. Four arrays of GSL large-format loudspeakers were flown back-to-back above the central stage to cover the field and lower stands, with SL-SUBs flanking the sides. An additional six **KSL arrays** along the ceiling covered upper-tier seating, while V-Series and monitor speakers ensured clear front-fill coverage. In total, the speaker count was nearly double that used in conventional three-sided stadium stages.
The system was custom-designed to preserve both audio clarity and visual aesthetics, allowing Zhang’s fans an unobstructed view of the performance while enjoying studio-level sound. Whether in the infield or the stands, this system delivers impressive dynamics and even coverage. With this landmark production, signals a bold leap forward for China’s live events industry. Jason Zhang’s concerts didn’t just entertain—they redefined the standards for large-scale concert sound in China.
