Jeff & Stevens Haarschmiede

Jeff & Stevens Haarschmiede is a hair salon run by two brothers near Schmiede Wiedikon in Zurich. The salon is located in a former barn on one of the only farmsteads still standing in the old Wiedikon town center. The inspiration for both name and visual identity came from the areas traditional values. We refer to the history of Schmiede Wiedikon (Schmiede means blacksmith shop in German) and the now landmarked building. Based on a sans serif typeface with blackletter influences, we developed a design concept that indicates high-quality craftsmanship. We designed a selection of letterings and signets with a strong visual language that served as a basis for the printed matter, salon signage and digital media. A special focus was laid on the materials and the production process: We rely on the most time-honored of all printing methods – the traditional letterpress.
